Teak is a good outdoor timber because it holds natural oils that resist moisture and rot. A finish does not change that. It changes how the piece looks as it ages, and how much care the owner must give it.

Raw and sanded

No coating at all. The wood turns silver grey within a few months outdoors, an even and attractive weathering that many hotels prefer. It needs only occasional cleaning with soft brush and water. Nothing to renew, but the colour is no longer honey.

Teak oil

Oil restores the warm honey colour and feeds the surface. The effect fades in sun and rain, so oil needs renewing once or twice a season in strong weather. A piece left unoiled simply weathers to grey. It is a maintenance choice rather than a risk to the wood.

Sealer

A UV-resistant sealer slows greying and lasts longer than oil. It needs a clean surface, and it should be reapplied before the film starts to peel, rather than after. Sealed teak that is neglected looks worse than raw teak.

What we suggest for hospitality

For hotel and villa projects, raw sanded teak with a written care guide is the least costly to maintain. If the brief calls for the original colour, supply oil with the order and set a seasonal care routine with the property team.
